Fall is bulb planting time for Spring flowers. In our Southern region, December/January is the opportune time to plant for a beautiful Spring showing. We procure our bulbs from the same grower as the Dallas Arboretum to ensure fresh, first rate blooms.
There are many bulb varieties to choose from but here are some of the favorites:
- Daffodils – symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings, the Dutch Master variety does well in our Southern climate
- Tulips – look beautiful when planted in mass, bright and colorful & available in mixed variety of colors
- Hyacinths – clusters of tiny bell shaped blooms with an incredible fragrance, most popular color are blue and purple but also can be planted in a variety mix of color
When selecting the area for planting the bulbs, its best to choose a space that will receive at least part sun throughout the Spring. Bulbs look great planted in mass such as garden beds, near/around the mailbox or as a colorful border for your trees. They will need to be watered after planting and we recommend mulch added to the area to keep weeds down and hold in the moisture.
